2009 US Track and Field
Championships

June 25-28, 2009 Eugene,
Oregon Tyson Gay ran a 1st round wind-aided 9.75
(American record 9.77) 100 meters but decided to pass on
competing in the semifinal round as he is an automatic
qualifier for the World Championships. 2008 Olympic
bronze medalist Walter Dix aggravated a hamstring injury
mid-race in the 100 meter semifinal and failed to qualify for
the 100 meter finals. Michael Rodgers won the 100
meter final in 9.91 (w) with Darvis Patton a close second
in 9.92 (w).

In the women's 100 meter final, Carmelita
Jeter and Muna Lee had a photo finish with times of 10.78
seconds. Carmelita Jeter was declared the winner by one
one-thousandth of a second!
David Payne edged Terrence Trammell in
the men's 110 meter hurdles as both runners finished with
a time of 13.12 seconds.
Dwight Phillips won the men's long jump
with a 28 foot 1 1/2 inch leap (8.57 meters).
LaShawn Merritt won the men's 400 meters
with a time of 44.50 seconds while Sanya Richards won the
women's 400 meters in 50.05 seconds.
In the 200 meter finals, Shawn Crawford
won the men's event in 19.73 seconds while Allyson Felix won
the women's event in 22.02 seconds. Walter Dix, who
won the bronze medal in Beijing, did not compete due to a
hamstring injury in a 100 meter semifinal.
